Dusty Franklin, CJF, Owner/Instructor

AFA Examiner, AFA Board of Directors, Midwest Regional Supervisor

 

Dusty has been shoeing horses full-time since 1992 after working for his father, who is also a Certified Journeyman Farrier, for several years.  He has been involved in the horse industry for over 25 years as a youth competitor, amateur competitor, and now as a father of a youth competitor in both riding and farriery.  In 1995, Dusty began working towards his Certified Farrier certification.  Soon after, he earned his certification as a Certified Journeyman Farrier.  In 1996, Dusty began competing in horseshoeing competitions around the United States and Canada, advancing from a Division I competitor to the Open Division within one year.  Dusty was asked to become an American Farrier's Association Certification Tester in 1997 and traveled to certifications working with Examiners.  Dusty has competed at convention many times making the Top Ten Live Shoeing and placing as high as 3rd and 4th.  Dusty was asked to become an American Farrier's Association Certification Tester in 1997 and traveled to certifications working with Examiners and became an Examiner in 2003.  He is currently one of fifteen Examiners within the AFA that certify farriers under its current guidelines.  Currently, Dusty Co-Chairs the Oklahoma Farriers Association Contest and Event Coordinator, scheduling clinicians and judges, organization and advertising for it’s annual contest.  His most recent accomplishment has been mentoring his two sons, Chase (11) and Cody (8) in the fine art of two-man shoe building.

 

Staci Franklin

Instructor & Office Manager

Staci has been involved in the farrier industry through Dusty since 1994 and will be responsible for teaching all aspects of farrier business management, building and maintaining a business, advertising, bookkeeping, as well as working with equine anatomy and written homework assignments.  Staci has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and Marketing as well as a Bachelor's of Education in Business Management.   Throughout the years, Staci has also spent many hours under the horse and at the forge and will be able to provide support to the students as needed.
